Sound sleeper

It was a pleasant morning on the Heartsong Isles, the sky was clear and the weather mild, promising another beautiful day.

Merrill had quite enjoyed the last days of festivities. She wasn't the most social of xyns, but even she had loved the atmosphere, the super relaxed xyns, the delicious drinks from the Blue Lagoon and the warm sea water. She even managed to find a new companion, a Lumisluggy, which was now dozing away on her head.

The beach was quiet still. After a long night of partying, most of the xyns decided to sleep in. Not one for partying much, Merrill had been an early riser and now she enjoyed the quiet hours to herself. Soft waves were lapping at the shore, some small crabs were busy collecting food - early risers like herself, just like the squawking seagulls overhead. She stretched her front legs, paws burying in the cool sand and sighed. Her lumisluggy blinked drowsily, then snored on, amusing Merrill.

It took her a while to notice, that the snoring of her Lumisluggy wasn't the only sound she heard. Tipping an ear, she noticed snorting and a soft wheezing - breaths. Another sleeping creature.

She looked around, confused. Aside from the crabs, the seagulls, herself and her companion, the beach was empty. Or was it?
She searched the soft rising hills of sand before her and her eyes settled on a slightly bigger bump further ahead of her, which seemed to be... moving?

Curious, Merrill rose to her feet and made her way over to the softly moving pile. Up and down it went and Merrill couldn't fight the broad grin growing on her face.

She peeked down.

There, in front of her, was a sleeping pixyn. The small creature had fallen asleep in the warm sun, lying on its back, mouth far open in a content snore. Some xynlets must have played a prank on the pixyn, for the small body was covered in a pile of sand, only the face with its tuft of flowers, which made the pixyns mop of "hair", and the tail still peeking out. The small mount of sand rose gently with the pixyn's - up close now quite loud - snoring. A tiny flag was placed atop the pile, the fabric carrying some well-visible initials, marking the mount as someone's property. Tiny footprints - definitely of some xynlets - were leading away from the mount. Being a sound sleeper, the pixyn had snored through it all.

Fighting down a giggle, Merrill quickly made her way back to her own resting point, otherwise her laugther might wake the poor pixyn from its well-deserved slumber.

"Let it sleep", she thought to herself. No harm was done, it was safely covered in sand far away from the waters edge, and the flowers on its head made it visible enough so that no other xyn would stumble over it on accident.

And if everything else failed, she was still there, keeping an eye out for the pixyn, just in case.
