"Ah, hmm, welcome to my library of curses, afflictions and illnesses I've collected..." Oberon doesn't even turn to look at you as he welcomes you.
"Feel free to look around; no questions please." he's ignoring you now...

Illnesses and afflictions

Post-Corruption Symptoms

Not neccessarily an illness, but xyns who have been corrupted suffer ongoing symptoms even after being healed. The severity of the symptoms depends on how long they’ve been corrupted for. Symptoms often include recurring nightmares, bouts of aggression, feeling the need to isolate and feeling emotionless.

Xyns who struggle with symptoms take frequent medication to help.

Moonlight Deprivation

Not an illness in itself but something that happens when xyns are limited in the amount of moon energy they get. Xyns tend to get irritable and fatigued. This quickly ramps up into head/hornaches, blurry vision, dizziness and confusion.

Xyns will get moonlight infusions or special meals packed with moonlight energy to help with this.

Naturesgrasp
An illness that most commonly affects pixyns; naturesgrasp causes a xyn to become slowed down, lethargic, tired and dazed. The disease causes a xyn to have a desire to go lay in nature and moonbathe for a long time. Plants start to grow over the xyn and roots start to bind the xyn to the soil. If not interrupted the xyn will slowly be absorbed into the land.

Caused by the parasitic Wingsbane Root- this plant lives underground and absorbs the moon energy from living beings.

Xyns are often kept restrained/hospitalized to prevent them from becoming one with the ground. It's treated through lullay knight magic, medications and time.
Xyns who survive sometimes have floral growth or floral takeover as a result of this illness.

Gemsblight

An illness that causes gems to grow uncontrollably over the body. The gems must be removed frequently or the xyn will be overtaken and unable to move or absorb moonlight. Gemstone growth spots are extremely itchy and sore. The illness causes extreme fatigue, hornaches and confusion. Even after recovering, xyns will sometimes have “scarring” (gemstone growth/crystalline trait) after they recover from a particularly bad bout of it.

Xyns are monitored closely and treated with medication and frequent baths to help with the gem growths.

Eclipse Virus

A virus that causes a thick, sticky and sooty substance to cover the xyn’s fur. Xyn fur has small receptors that let them absorb moonlight and this virus blocks that ability. Xyns often suffer from symptoms of moonlight deprivation as well as feeling itchy, uncomfortable and heavy. It's very contagious and even touching a xyn with Eclipse Virus can transmit it.

Xyns are often hospitalized and treated with moonlight infusions, medication and lullay knight magic.

Flare Fever

A contagious virus that causes fevers, hornaches, fatigue, dizziness and lost control over magic. Xyns with this virus will "flare", causing them to release their magic uncontrollably. Xyns are often hot and achy. They're encouraged to rest a lot. Its symptoms can be treated with medication but its best to let the virus run its course and get a lot of moonlight.

Dust Flu

A virus that causes dustlike particles to effect a xyn's breath and magicava. It clogs up their respiratory system causing sneezing, coughing, loss of magic, fatigue and aches. Xyns are encouraged to seek help from lullay knights and other doctors since this virus can be deadly if left untreated.

Suneater’s Curse

The Suneater’s Curse is a strange variant of corruption that’s extremely rare to come across. This curse can affect any xyn. It causes the xyn to grow 20-50% bigger, causes large star-shaped patches to appear on the body, their colour becomes a shade of black and their pupils shrink. They become manic, seeking sunlight at any cost. Their regular breath or magic is replaced by a fiery plasma breath that tears open holes in dimensions. These tears don’t close themselves so knight xyns often have to scramble to repair these holes. Suneater xyns almost always tear holes into other dimensions seeking sunlight. They use their bigger body to find the sunniest place possible and absorb massive amounts of energy. They’re known to cause chaos in other dimensions, destroying things, inflicting hysteria, etc. Sunlight is extra invigorating to xyns so the huge amounts of energy and magic often make them feel manic and grandiose.

When Suneaters eventually run out of energy they revert to their original xyn form extremely tired, disoriented and run-down. Suneater xyns have at least one star-shaped patch and dark starlike markings in their normal form. They have little to no memory of what happened when transformed so they often don’t know where they are and have little energy to get back. Suneater xyns usually need to be rescued by special dimensional rescue teams that follow their tears through spacetime.

The Suneater’s Curse has no known cure. Large amounts of sunlight or other sun-related celestial events are known to trigger the transformation. Xyns with Suneater curse often stay inside and avoid sunlight during Sunrise Celebration and other similar events like solar eclipses.

Moonstricken

Some consider being moonstricken a curse and others consider it a blessing. It’s a rare affliction that can affect any xyn. It causes a xyn to gain “waning markings”. These are dark markings that change with the phase of the moons. During full moons, there are no waning markings and the xyn’s magic is supercharged. During new moons, they are completely overtaken by the markings and their magic is extremely weak. The markings shift through the phases - the xyn is more powerful the less markings are active.

Moonstricken xyns can use “moongaze” to look through any moon in the universe. This makes their eyes look like the surface of a moon and glow. Their pupils always turn light. Xyns need to make sure they’re in a safe place and position to use this trait since they will no longer be aware of their surroundings. Using moongaze requires a great deal of energy and often leaves xyns drained and tired afterwards.

Being moonstricken has no known cure. Xyns learn to adapt and pay attention to the phases of the moon to take advantage of being supercharged and to take it easy during new moons.
