Clash in the Nightsky

Commission work for SheiaLyn and TheWyvernAndTheFox. Their vexyns Vashiteru and Elrena, fighting (or training 8D?).

 

I'm still so thankful I was trusted with this project; I learned a LOT about Clip Studio Paint during it. THANK YOU guys so much!

The - literally - heated battle has been ongoing some time, neither vexyn showing any weaknesses. Elrena, a water elemental, is falling back, thrown back by a recent attack, her water magic dispersing while she falls. Vashiteru, a fire elemental, starts summoning a fireball, the light of the fire reflecting on her breast scales.

 

If young xyns were watching, they would think Vashi at an advantage now, thanks to fire being a very aggressive element, while water being a "softer" one. The older, battle proven xyns however know that a strong water elemental will beat fire any time, IF they can handle the aggressive onslaught.

 

For now, Vashi has the advantage. But the elements cannot only be used for attacks, also fore defense. And before Vashi can fire, Elrena quickly summons a ball of water around herself, like an armor, to cushion herself against the impact. The force of the fireball throws her to the ground, burrowing her into the earth, leaving a crater, dust and vapor rising up. Vashi, who's been following on swift wings, flies through the fog, trying to see through it, laying eyes on... an empty crater. Elrena's water cushion was successful, leaving her unharmed, and she's been making her way behind the other xyn unnoticed...

You see, the outcome is completely open! I think about elemental magic A LOT, and how it can be used, and I think every xyn has many ways to use it's magic. Some are stronger than others, true, but I think most battle proven xyns are quite even. Speaking of fire elementals; thinking about Vashi's magic also made my think about my own fire elemental's. My Cheshire is a weak fire elemental moxyn. His flames are green and don't burn very hot. He mostly uses them as "will-o'-the-wisps", to lead other xyns astray, true to his jester self. My Ragna however is a VERY strong fire elemental vexyn. When she breathes in before throwing fire, her breast scales start glowing from within from the heat of it. She also has fire running down her body by will. It's VERY hot, but it doesn't hurt her. I think xyns are mostly immune against their own element.
