Legendseekers IV || Queenslayer

Rella took a deep breath as she organized her thoughts. The turn of events was sudden, and it had thrown everyone into disarray. As a royal knight, her first instinct was naturally to chase after the stranger and assist with the fight - however, Samson had told her to stay behind. Though Rella initially objected, she quickly saw the reason why. The foe they were going up against was formidable and clearly far above her weight class. Though she considered herself a skilled fighter, she was not arrogant enough to believe that she could defeat someone that had so severely injured even one of the queens. That said, some part of her still itched to pitch in somehow. Her powers were limited, sure, but her contributions could still matter, right? There were definitely xyns that had snuck out to chase after the strange xyn, Rella was sure of it. Should she do the same?...

She shook her head in mild frustration, mostly at her own unruly thoughts. Now was not the time to be distracted. She had been instructed to help with the barrier by her superior, and she had no real intention of going against those orders. Focusing back on the present, she heard Hush’s voice as she went  around checking on all the xyns that were helping support the barrier. A sense of urgency permeated through the outskirts of Moonreach, even in the lullay knight leader’s usually calm and gentle voice. Which was only natural, Rella told herself. They were facing an unprecedented threat, and there was no telling what that strange xyn would do next–

“Miss… Rella, is it?”
“-Oh! Yes!”

It wasn’t long before Hush approached her, jolting her out of her thoughts.

“Sorry, but I must ask you to focus. See, this part of the barrier needs some more reinforcements,” Hush gestured at a part of the barrier above them. It still shone brightly, but if one were to squint, they could see that one of the joints of the barrier was just slightly fainter than the others.

It was only then that Rella realized that, in her drifting thoughts, she had stopped channeling her magic. She apologized profusely in embarrassment, and cast her support on the barrier once more. It didn’t take long for the joint’s glow to return to its proper state. Seeing that, Hush nodded in approval.

“Thank you for your help, Rella. We need all the paws we can manage, after all.” She spoke with a soft smile. “We’re glad to have your support.” Finishing that, Hush continued surveying the grounds.

Rella watched as Hush disappeared between the many xyns. The mistake was definitely a blunder, but the resulting brief conversation did remind her of something. What was she even thinking, considering sneaking out? She did not need to be part of the front lines to “pitch in” actively; while the others were trying to take down the enemy, protecting Moonreach and making sure the barrier was secure was equally important as a job. It wasn’t like she was just sitting idle, waiting for the worst to happen. Her job was to help make sure the ones who were fighting tooth and claw, and every other xyn, would still have a home to return to.

With renewed focus, Rella turned back towards the barrier, her magic aura shimmering with her usual confidence.
